Ten teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the first high school football rankings of the season released by the Associated Press on Monday (Aug. 27, 2018).

Two-time defending eight-player state champion Don Bosco and Hudson, which finished second in Class-A a year ago, both debuted at No. 1 in their respective classes. Don Bosco extended the state's longest-active winning streak to 21 games with a lop-sided 50-6 victory over eight-player newcomer Gladbrook-Reinbeck Friday night, while Hudson won its 12th-consecutive regular-season game with a 46-8 win over Jesup.

East Buchanan (No. 7) and Wapsie Valley (No. 9) are also ranked in the Class-A poll, while Dike-New Hartford debuted at No. 5 in the Class-1A survey.

Also ranked among the top 10 are La Porte City Union (No. 3) and Waukon (No. 9) in Class-2A, West Delaware (No. 7) and Waverly-Shell Rock (No. 9) in Class-3A, and Cedar Falls (No. 5) in Class-4A.

Six area teams received votes, but just missed being ranked among the top 10 in the six-class poll.
