An Independence man will be spending his next ten years in prison on methamphetamine charges.

33-year-old Kenneth Barnes had pleaded guilty on June 5th, to a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver.

The charges against Barnes originated on January 6th, when authorities received an anonymous call, reporting drug activity.

When Independence Police investigated, officers noted that they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside his house. After getting consent to search the property, police found a small digital scale, plastic baggies, methamphetamine and marijuana.

Barnes was sentenced Tuesday (July 17) in Buchanan County District Court, to 10 years in prison.
