illinois intersection

Authorities are investigating a traffic accident in northern Illinois, that has taken the life of a Cedar Falls couple.

It happened Wednesday (June 6), at the intersection of Illinois Highway 94 and Highway 135, near Monmouth, in Warren County.

A westbound car on 94, driven by 84-year-old Miriam Temple of Cedar Falls, had stopped at the stop sign, but then proceeded into the intersection, into the path of a northbound car driven by 29-year-old Robert Gates of Aledo, Illinois.

Temple's car was struck in the driver's side; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 86-year-old Thoburn Thompson, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was taken to a Peoria hospital, where he died.

Gates, the other driver, as well as two of his passengers, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed, however the accident remains under investigation.
