Chiefs lineman, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif will take his medical exam in May and wants M.D. added to his jersey.

We've seen a lot of different suffixes on the back of player jerseys. There are guys that add the junior like Odell Beckham Jr., some add senior like Steve Smith Sr., and even that they are a 3rd-generation name like former Cowboy running back Marion Barber III.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif entered medical school in Montreal before being drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft to play professional football. He has worked in the off-season toward his medial license and is set to take his medial exam in May. He is in talks with the league to add M.D. to the back of his jersey. Upon completion of his exam, Duvernay-Tardif will become the first NFL player to take the field while also holding a medical degree.

Duvernay-Tardif told the Kansas City Star, "I want to put Duvernay-Tardif M.D. on my jersey. I've already started a conversation with the league office and they say that anything is possible."

He absolutely should get that accomplishment added to his jersey. We've had to watch guys legally change their name to Chad Ochocinco or Meta World Peace, where here we get to see a guy add becoming a doctor to his title. Just the fact that his "fall-back" career from being an NFL football player is to be a medical doctor is amazing.

In addition to getting ready for his upcoming exam, he is currently in Pyeongchang covering the Olympics for Radio-Canada. It's always refreshing to hear the stories of athletes that have a good head on their shoulders.
