‘College GameDay’ Sign Ends Up Raising Thousands For Iowa Children’s Hospital

[UPDATE] Anheuser Busch/Busch Beer is now among two companies that have stepped up to match donations from the sign when Carson closes his Venmo at the end of the month. The donations currently total over $29,000 (according to Carson's Twitter account Wednesday morning at 7:35 am) and you can still donate at Carson-King-25.

After Anheuser Busch announced they would match everything Carson collects, Venmo is going to do the same.

24-year-old Carson King of Altoona, Iowa headed to Ames last Saturday with a homemade sign in hand, hoping to be seen on College GameDay. His sign read, "Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished". It then gave his Venmo account information. King was hoping to get a little extra beer money. What he got turned out to be a whole lot more.

King arrived at the College GameDay set at 5:30 a.m. to find the main pit area already full. He ended up in a secondary area. But his sign requesting beer money ended up several times on screen anyway. I remember seeing it Saturday morning and laughing out loud. I wondered if the kid would actually get any donations.

King said that to his surprise the money started rolling in. When it got over $600 he decided he was going to donate the money to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. As of yesterday, his beer sign total was over $5,700! King attended Iowa State for two years before taking a full-time job.
