The Football Ring of Honor at East High School in Waterloo has reached a milestone.

It was 15 years ago -- 2005 -- when supporters established the Ring of Honor to recognize individuals who brought positive recognition and contributed successfully to the Trojans' football program.

On Sept. 12, seven men are being added to the East High School Football Ring of Honor during a public ceremony that begins at 6:30 PM in the School Commons. The program follows a 5:15 PM social, then a post Ring of Honor celebration is planned immediately after the ceremony at Eagles #764, 202 East 1st Street/U.S. Highway 63 North, in Waterloo.

The 2019 inductees include the following:

  • Willie Austin: Played on East's 1970 state championship team and later served as an assistant coach for offensive/defensive backs on Bryan Joens' staff that guided the Trojans to the 1991 state playoffs.
  • Dennis Anderson (1974): Started at slot back on East's top-ranked team in 1973 that qualified for the state playoffs. As a wrestler, he won the 145-pound individual title while helping East to a second-place team finish at the 1974 state championships.
  • Sean McCrane (1992): Started at guard on the Trojans' 1991 state playoff team and was an All-Metro and honorable mention All-State selection.
  • Joe Rodgers (1971): Started at offensive/defensive tackle on East's 1969 and 1970 state championship teams. He was an All-Metro and honorable mention All-State selection.
  • Ken Rosenkrans (1969): The starting center on East's 1968 state championship team. An All-Metro, All-Conference and 1st Team All-State selection, Rosenkrans accepted an athletic scholarship from the University of Northern Iowa. He played football for the Panthers four seasons.
  • Brenton Shavers (1987): A starting outside linebacker on East's 1986 Big 8 Conference championship team that qualified for the state playoffs. He's the current athletic director at East.

In Memoriam:

  • Eugene Stevens (1940): A fullback on East's successful 1939 team that was coached by EsLeonard Raffensperger. Stevens later had a distinguished military stint in World War II.

This year's Ring of Honor inductees will also be recognized at halftime of the football game against Webster City on Sept. 13, along with the Class of 1969. The game is scheduled to start promptly at 7 PM.

Individuals inducted into the East High School Football Ring of Honor are chosen by a panel of past players, coaches and administrators and other personnel who have direct ties to the Trojans' football program.
