Hudson Wins State Championship [PHOTOS]
There was no denying Hudson this season.
The top-ranked Pirates finished an undefeated season and claimed the Class A state championship with a decisive 30-7 victory over No. 2 AHSTW of Avoca at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls Thursday afternoon (Nov. 15, 2018). The title is the third in school history for Hudson, but the first since 1994.
Christian Seres led the way offensively for the Pirates, running for 161 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns. Jacob Murray completed 10 of 16 passes for 116 yards, and ran for a pair of scores.
Seres found the endzone on Hudson's opening drive. His 8-yard run up the middle capped a 12-play, 75-yard march that gave the Pirates a 6-0 lead (the extra-point kicked failed) took into the second quarter.
The Pirates extended their edge to 13-0 by halftime. Murray rushed for a 10-yard score with one-minute, five-seconds remaining, followed by the extra-point kick.
Austin Appleton added a 32-yard field midway through the third quarter, then Seres battled his way to the endzone on a 20-yard pinball run about three-minutes later. Seres bounced off several AHSTW players while spinning his way through the Vikings' defense. His touchdown pushed Hudson's advantage to 23-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates extended their lead to 30-0 on a two-yard by Murray with 7:57 left.
AHSTW's only score of the afternoon came on a 6-yard touchdown run by Blake Osbahr with just under four minutes left. For the Vikings, however, it was too late to mount a rally.
A year ago, Hudson walked off Stan Sheriff Field inside the UNI-Dome with a feeling of disappointment after falling to West Sioux in the championship game. That setback fueled their hunger to finish the task in 2018.
Finish the task they did!
The Pirates rolled up 316 yards of total offense on 62 plays. They limited AHSTW to 260 yards on 51 plays.
