Spring football practice is winding down for the UNI Panthers.

Coach Mark Farley’s squad will have an open workout at 1 PM Saturday in the UNI-Dome. Fans in attendance will get their first look at the talent they’ll see this fall. They can also pick up a 2019 UNI football schedule poster.

Saturday’s open practice is replacing the traditional spring scrimmage. According to a press release, offseason and spring practice injuries have prevented the UNI coaches from putting together two full rosters to compete in a spring game.

Despite the injuries, Saturday's practice is expected to include full contact team periods so fans can see the Panthers’ revamped offense under first-year coordinator Ryan Mahaffey.

Spring practice at UNI began in early April.

One of the biggest challenges for Farley and his staff heading into the fall campaign is finding a new quarterback. Redshirt sophomore Jacob Keller, redshirt freshman Will McElvain and freshman Nate Martins are all hoping replace three-year starter Eli Dunne. Farley isn't expected to name UNI's new signal-caller until sometime in August.

The Panthers graduated 17 seniors from last season’s FCS playoff team. UNI opens the 2019 season Aug. 31 at Iowa State. To view the complete schedule, CLICK HERE.
