Voters have approved a $5.9 million bond referendum in Delaware County.

Money from Tuesday's bond issue will finance construction of a new county jail and sheriff's office in Manchester. According to facility plans, the jail will be built to house around 38 people. The cell house would replace the current jail that's been in use since 1967.

Unofficial election results show the measure passed with 86 percent support, with 2,167 voters saying "yes" and 367 "no". A 60 percent supermajority was required for the bond issue to pass.

The jail issue passed on the third attempt. Previously, voters twice rejected proposals to expand and remodel the existing 52-year-old structure. Those issues were on the ballot in 2014 and 2015.
