During times of stress especially a pandemic, we all seem to forget that small acts of kindness and giving back can really help out our communities. Whether it is donating school supplies, writing a simple thank you note to a frontline worker or donating blood, every act helps. So step up to the plate and help out by donating blood!

According to KWWL, the Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs Office will be holding a blood drive on Tuesday, August 18th. The blood drive will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at BHC Veterans Affairs in Waterloo. Blood is always needed even during a pandemic and it can be a quick and easy way to save a life. In fact, according to KWWL, the LiveServe Blood Center explains that one donation can help three people's lives.

For those of you afraid of needles or worried it will hurt, I will tell you those taking your blood are professionals who make it quick, easy and painless. I have done multiple blood drives before and have felt a small prick and that is it. However, if you don't like the sight of blood I suggest bring a book or just closing your eyes to avoid looking.
