I love beer. Craft beer. Cheap beer. Light beer. Stout beer. Amber ale beer etc. etc. So, this really excites me. We have a LOT of breweries per capita. Before we get into that, let's start with population. Iowa's population is a little over 3-million according to the U.S Census Bureau. That means we have millions and millions fewer people than Texas, Florida or California. But, again like I said at the beginning of this article, we have a lotta breweries per capita. What if I told you that we have more breweries that any of those states I just mentioned? You'd say, 'noooo way, man!' Right? Well it's true!

According to Zippia's research on the matter, Iowa ranks 17th in the U.S. for breweries per capita. That beats out the states mentioned before, and many, many others. Our grand total as of now is 105 craft breweries statewide. That equals out to 30,048 people-per-brewery (math, man). Thus putting us within the top 20 nationwide.

But before we pop a Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue (please don't shake a helpless beer), our midwestern 'family' largely beats us out. South Dakota ranks 12th, Wisconsin is 14th, and Minnesota 15th.

If you're lookin for a good Iowa brewery to try, I highly suggest Pivo up in Calmar.
