It's time for all the goblins, ghouls, ghosts and monsters to come out and play! With the beginning of October here, it's time to talk monsters. Not just any monsters but Iowa monsters!

I don't know about you but when I was growing up learning the lore and legends of my home state Ohio and even from my own home town of Columbus was one of my favorite things to do during this time of year. Yes I was a curious kid but it also added to the fun of Halloween and getting into the spirit.

Well being in Iowa almost two years now, I have realized I have never looked into the "monsters" that Iowa is famous for (how could this be?!). So let's do it now. Join me as I go through some of Iowa's famous monster legends each week.... also beware of what is right behind you... BOO! Hehe

'The Hairy Wildwoman of Gordon’s Ferry'

As the legend goes in July of 1884, hunters in Gordon's Ferry, Iowa spotted what could only be believed to be a "wildman" except for the fact it was a "wildwoman" in a forest. The woman was described to be standing like a statue in the wods and had black disheveled long hair. The "wildwoman" was described to be about 20 years old and she was nude however this was not the most disturbing feature. The hunters reported that the woman had a receding forehead as well.

The hunters decided to approach the woman from behind but as the woman realized they were there, the hunters reported the woman released "an unearthly scream" and took off into the woods at incredible speeds. Although the men continued to search the woods for hours after, they never saw the "wildwoman" again.
