Football fans that was quite the night, the 1st round of the 2020 NFL's virtual on-line draft went pretty smooth overall. There were only a few awkward TV moments of cutting back to commissioner Roger Goodell (live from his basement) when he didn't think he was on camera yet or yelling "hey I'm gonna need my mic on"!

One native Iowan got his named called Thursday night and he joins a long list of former Hawkeyes playing in the the NFL and is the sixth Hawkeye to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in the last 10 years. In my previous article NFL Draft-Up To 5 Iowa Players Could Be Drafted...I predicted, like a lot of people did, that Wirfs would be drafted 4th overall by the New York Giants. Well, the Giants passed him by for another tackle. Then, the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets selected different offensive tackles...leaving Iowa fans thinking "what the heck"? - Turn out, Wirfs got the "last laugh". The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up a notch and drafted him at #13 overall. So, Wirfs got saved from playing for three of the worst teams in the NFL, (Giants, Jets and Browns) and gets to block for new Buccaneers' quarterback Tom Brady. Of which, with Brady at the helm, that makes them a "contender".

Good things happen to good people...Congrats Tristan from Iowa fans everywhere! Check him out below "rolling out the red carpet" for his mom.

My other prediction for the 1st round fell through. I had Wirfs' teammate A.J. Epenesa being draft at #23 by the New England Patriots, that didn't happen, as the Patriots, not too surprisingly, traded out of the 1st round. So, we'll have to wait til tonight and Saturday to see where Epenesa lands, along with Geno Stone, Michael Ojemudia and Nate Stanley. Tune in for more "man drama" as I call it, the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL Draft begin tonight at 6pm, then rounds 4-7 are Saturday starting at 11am on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network.
