In a week where we take pride in celebrating our independence in America, and the brave men and women who have given it to us, we're just as proud to share news of a new gym in Cedar Rapids designed especially for them.

Fundraising began early this year and has culminated in over $1500. The money raised was put toward new equipment, as the rent on the building and use of the new gym is free for veterans. It's located at Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, 50 2nd Ave. bridge.

Organizers told KCRG it's a gym just for veterans, to work out among fellow heroes, bond, share stories, and get out of the house.

With new equipment now in and operating, they plan to expand the gym to offer yoga, and boxing lessons. Its hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, and while they'd likely welcome you to stop by for a quick minute to say hello and give them thanks, they deserve to have us step aside and let them enjoy their independence and fellowship among each other.

Happy 4th of July.
