Oelwein's New HealthFirst Medical Park

Some northeast Iowa residents, mostly Oelwein-area business people, have gotten a sneak peak at the area's newest healthcare facility.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for HealthFirst Medical Park Wednesday evening (Sept.26, 2018). It's a 14,000-square-foot facility located on the south side of Oelwein, along Iowa Highway 150.

Tours were also given of the building, which is nearly completely finished. HealthFirst is owned by Oelwein Community Healthcare Foundation, a non-profit group that began its effort to bring more choices in affordable health care to the Fayette County area.

Planning for the facility began over 10 years ago and construction got underway in October 2017. The clinic is scheduled to officially open next week, on Oct. 1. Appointments are being taken now, for residents to see one of the on-site doctors and nurse practitioners.

One of those physicians is Dr. Clay Hallberg, who was on the ground floor of the clinic's development. Local surgeon Dr. Anthony Leo was also very instrumental in the endeavor. Other employees hired are all from the immediate northeast Iowa area.

The Oelwein HealthFirst Medical Park will provide family practice services, women's health care, urgent care, comprehensive lab services, as well as CT Scan and 3D Mammography.

In addition, the building features numerous modern examination rooms. Also in the works, possibly in the next five years, is a surgical unit, which will eventually be built on the north side of the building.

The many services that will be provided by the non-profit HealthFirst Medical Park, are designed to be at a lower cost compared to the larger healthcare facilities, and are managed locally.
