The State Fire Marshall's Office has been called in to investigate a fire that heavily damaged an Evansdale home on New Year's night (Jan. 1, 2019).

The blaze at 209 Morris Ave. broke out shortly after 6:30 PM. Evansdale Fire Chief Ryan Phillips said when firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the two-story house already fully engulfed in flames.

Evansdale firefighters knocked down the blaze and remained at the scene until around 11:45 PM. Fire crews from the neighboring communities of Gilbertville and Raymond were called in to assist.

Phillips said state fire officials are trying to determine the cause.

No one was home when the fire broke out. No injuries were reported.
