A head-on crash in Fayette County Wednesday killed one man and left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Sheriff's officials identified the victim as Benjamin Campbell, 34, of West Union. They said Kayla Taylor, 27, of Fayette, suffered serious injuries and was air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment.

The two-vehicle accident happened just before 7:30 AM on Iowa Highway 150 near South Klock Road, just south of Fayette. The crash closed the highway for more than five hours.

Authorities said Taylor was traveling northbound in a Ford F150 pick-up when her vehicle was struck head-on by Campbell's southbound Ford F250 pick-up, which crossed the center line and entered the opposite lane of traffic. Campbell died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by Fayette County sheriff's officials.

Assisting at the scene were Fayette police, Fayette firefighters, Fayette ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Department of Transportation.
