Pickup Crashes into Mother and Son Riding Bicycles

Authorities are investigating a traffic accident in Linn County, in which a vehicle collided with 2 people riding bicycles.

Just before 8pm Tuesday (Aug. 6), the Linn County Sheriff was alerted to the accident on 76th Avenue Drive, East of "C" Street SW, just south of Cedar Rapids and Northwest of Ely.

A pickup driven by 39 year old Tevin Greene of Fairfax, was westbound when he struck 45 year old Heidi Burkle of Cedar Rapids, and her son, 13 year old Reid Burkle, both riding bicycles.

Heidi Burkle was taken by Lifeguard Air Ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals to be treated for serious injuries. Reid Burkle was transported by ground ambulance to University Hospitals, also with what are being described as serious injuries. A condition report on the two was not available.

The Linn County Sheriff was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Ely Fire Department, Area Ambulance, and Lifeguard Air Ambulance.
The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
