Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Marshall County

A pilot escaped injury while making an emergency landing in a Marshall County hayfield over the weekend.

According to sheriff's officials, John Yost was experiencing mechanical problems while flying back to an airport. Authorities said Yost decided to land the crop duster in a hayfield near Haverhill, which is south of Marshalltown.

The single-engine plane sustained minor wing damage during the controlled emergency landing, sheriff's officials said. The incident occurred just after 1:30 PM on Saturday.

Records show the airplane is owned and operated by Yost, who is contracted by Meyer Ag Service to apply agricultural chemicals to farm fields. Sheriff's officials said there were no agricultural chemicals on the plane at the time of the crash.​
