The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa has been a summer staple in the state each year for nearly a half century. Now, the event needs new organizers.

The entire staff of the world's oldest and largest organized bicycle touring event in the world resigned on Tuesday, following the Des Moines Register's controversial handling of the story involving Carson King. He's the Iowa State football fan who asked for beer money on national television and ended up raising nearly $3 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in less than one month.

In an interview with KCCI Tuesday, RAGBRAI Director T.J. Juskiewicz told the Des Moines television station that he and his entire staff have resigned from the newspaper. He said the former RAGBRAI organizers are creating a new event called "Iowa's Ride," which will be held the same week as RAGBRAI (July 19-25, 2020).

Juskiewicz has directed RAGBRAI for the last 16 years. He posted the resignation letter on RAGBRAI's twitter account Tuesday, but the post was removed a short time later. Reporter Mario Rossi of WOI-TV 5 in Des Moines shared the letter on his twitter account.
