The Irishman star and Academy Award winner Robert De Niro dropped a couple F-bombs when discussing President Trump on CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday (Sept. 29). Speaking to host Brian Stelter, the actor had harsh words about Trump as well as Fox News pundits days after an impeachment inquiry was launched against the president.

Calling Trump "like a gangster" in his conduct, De Niro twice said "fuck 'em" — the words being bleeped out — to the throng of newscasters who weren't exactly pleased with the actor's past remarks about the president. See video of the CNN appearance down toward the bottom of this post.

"I don't think he's capable of resigning," De Niro told CNN of Trump. "This guy has done everything possible — much worse than I ever thought, ever. The day after he was elected, I said, 'Well, give him a chance. You never know, you'll see.' But he's worse than I ever could have imagined."

After being asked if he thought Trump was performing like an actor, De Niro continued, "In some ways, I think he is. As I think some of these other pundits on Fox are, too. Because I can't believe that they would actually buy into this craziness. This guy should not be president, period."

At that point, Stelter brought up De Niro's now-infamous "Fuck Trump" speech at 2018's 72nd Annual Tony Awards, as well as the idea of talking heads on Fox News "com[ing] after" the actor for his sentiments. This prompted De Niro to double down on his point of view with his latest dual expletives. To which Stelter replied, "Well, you know, this is cable, so it's not an FCC violation. But it is still a Sunday morning."

The actor countered, "We are at a moment at our lives in this country, where this guy is like a gangster. He's come along, and he's said things, done things … This is terrible. We're in a terrible situation. We're in a terrible situation. And this guy just keeps going on and on and on without being stopped."

De Niro comedically portrayed former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller — the agent tasked with overseeing the investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election — on last season's Saturday Night Live. Last year, following the actor's heated Tony Awards remarks, De Niro was sent a suspicious package amid a wave of pipe bombs addressed to Trump critics.

The Irishman, the latest film from director Martin Scorsese, opens wide Nov. 1. In addition to De Niro, the movie also stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in the retelling of the life of mob hitman Frank Sheeran.
