Shawn Mendes has addressed rumors about his sexuality yet again.

The "In My Blood” singer sat down for a new interview with The Guardian, revealing it's "hurtful" for people to make assumptions—even though he insists there's nothing wrong with being gay.

“For me, it’s hurtful,” he admitted. “I get mad when people assume things about me because I imagine the people who don’t have the support system I have and how that must affect them.”

He went on to say that the rumors hurt his struggling LGBTQ fans as well. "That was why I was so angry, and you can see I still get riled up because I don’t think people understand that when you come at me about something that’s stupid you hurt so many other people," he continued. "They might not be speaking, but they’re listening."

Mendes even opened up about his October 2018 Rolling Stone profile—the one where he said he feels he needs to be "be seen with someone, like a girl, in public, to prove to people that I'm not gay." In the story, he also mentioned Dua Lipa's relationship with her boyfriend, which he admitted made him seem "so creepy," adding "If anything, the article made me realize your career isn't over if people think you're not perfect."

Over the years, Mendes has been romantically liked to celebrities like Hailey Baldwin and Camila Cabello, however, he's never publicly dated anyone. Instead, he's focused on his career, maintaining his "Prince of Pop" title (even though Justin Bieber begs to differ), and waiting for the right person to come along.
