The American Farm Bureau Federation says that the cost of a Thanksgiving Dinner for a gathering of 10 people is at the lowest it's been in four years.

Figures were released this week from the American Farm Bureau Federation saying that gathering of 10 for a Thanksgiving meal will cost about $49.87. This is just under 5 dollars per person.

2015, prices were at an all-time high at $50.11. "If you adjust for inflation, the price is lower this year than when we first started tracking the cost 31 years ago. The dollar goes a long way," said Dr. John Newton, AFBF's director of marketing intelligence.

The bureau tracks prices of 16 foods typically found on table come Thanksgiving Day including: turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, vegetables, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee, and milk.

The falling cost of a 16 pound turkey drove down the overall prices which made the total lowest it's been in the last four years. The average cost of a 16 pound turkey is $22.74 or about $1.42 per pound which is a 1% decrease since 2015. This price is actually coming back to where the price of turkey should be. The reason 2016 had a higher price of turkey was because of a bird flu outbreak that hurt the nation's supply of turkey and eggs.
