Police are searching for a person who fired shots into a crowd of people in Cedar Falls, injuring two early Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2019).

The incident occurred in the College Hill neighborhood near the University of Northern Iowa campus around 1:45 AM.

According to police, someone fired multiple shots from a handgun into a group of people in the 2200 block College St. One person was transported to the hospital by ambulance and a second was taken by private vehicle. Both victims, who police didn't identify, were treated for gunshot wounds.

Police said a Cedar Falls officer was on scene when the shooting occurred. The officer chased the suspect, but lost the shooter in the College Hill neighborhood. The search for the suspect continues.

The incident remains under investigation by Cedar Falls police.
