The West Central "Blue Devils' volleyball team may be "tough-spirited" on the court, but they're being "angels" when it comes to helping raise money for a great cause.

The team members worked with their parents and the West Central Booster Club to raise the money by hosting the "Volley For A Cure" basket auction earlier this month. They raised $670 to donate to Mercy One's Women’s First Fund!

In a press release: Supervisor of the MercyOne Breast Center, Kelly Flaucher stated:

"The thoughtfulness and caring of others can go a long way in providing essential services to women who need it most. It is inspiring to see how our youth can bring forth such a positive gesture in these difficult times,"

Donations to the MercyOne Women’s First Fund help pay for events like the annual "Free Mammo Night". This event provides mammograms to women who have cost barriers to receiving their yearly screening. This year’s "Free Mammo Night" events will be held in Waterloo on October 29, in Cedar Falls on November 5, and in Oelwein on November 10. Women with cost barriers to their yearly screening can call 319-292-2225 to schedule an appointment.

Anyone can donate to the fund by writing checks payable to MercyOne Northeast Iowa Foundations and designate their gift to the MercyOne Women’s First Fund. People can also donate online by visiting MercyOne.org/northeastiowa/giving and note the fund in the description. Funds raised benefit women across the entire MercyOne Northeast Iowa service area.
