An accident near Plainfield late last night (Thursday) has taken the life of a rural Nashua man.


The Bremer County Sheriff was alerted shortly after 11:00 p.m. of an accident north of the intersection of Highway 218 and C-13. Responding deputies found the vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, fully engulfed.

An investigation determined that the driver, 19-year-old Arthur Penrod, was driving south on 218, when his car entered a ditch and hit a cement box culvert. The car then went airborne, overturned and caught fire.

Penrod was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bremer County Sheriff was assisted by Plainfield First Responders, Plainfield Fire Department, and Waverly Ambulance.
