Ever since the 1930s, the grocery store chain Fareway has had its headquarters operate out of Boone, Iowa according to reports. The team behind the company have decided to move their operations out of the town.

Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer claims that there just isn't enough room in their current Boone facilities, and the company needs space to grow.

"Every five years we run out of space. We're jamming cubicles and we're putting together puzzle pieces to make everything fit," Cramer said to the Des Moines Register.

Officials have their sights set on moving the headquarters approximately 35 miles South to Johnston. Reports claim that the new location will be set up in Northwest 62nd Avenue which previously used to be the home of the Iowa Bankers Association.

Boone Mayor John Slight came out with a press release addressing the company's decision.

“Fareway has been, is and will remain a vital and valued corporate citizen in Boone. The decision announced by its leadership today that its corporate headquarters will be moving to Johnston is one that is important to Fareway’s continued expansion."

However, the people of Boone who work for Fareway will not be losing their jobs. More than 600 employees will continue to work at the wholesale campus and office in Boone.

Mayor Slight continues, "...just as it always has, Fareway will continue to make significant investments in its local facilities and our community at large. And as Fareway continues to expand throughout the Midwest, we know that Boone’s role in its success will also grow.”
